Jan Svankmajer - Meat Love (1989)
Jan Švankmajer (born 4 September 1934 in Prague) is a Czech surrealist artist. His work spans several media. He is known for his surreal animations and features, which have greatly influenced other artists such as Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, The Brothers Quay and many others. Švankmajer has gained a reputation over several decades for his distinctive use of stop-motion technique, and his ability to make surreal, nightmarish and yet somehow funny pictures. He is still making films in Prague at the time of writing. Švankmajer's trademarks include very exaggerated sounds, often creating a very strange effect in all eating scenes. He often uses very sped-up sequences when people walk and interact. His movies often involve inanimate objects coming alive and being brought to life through stop-motion. Food is a favourite subject and medium. Stop-motion features in most of his work, though his feature films also include live action to varying degrees. A lot of his movies, like the short film Down to the Cellar, are made from a child's perspective, while at the same time often having a truly disturbing and even aggressive nature. In 1972 the communist authorities banned him from making films, and many of his later films were banned. He was almost unknown in the West until the early 1980s. Today he is one of the most celebrated animators in the world. Preeti manages to convince Summi and Saroj then declares the news of Rishi-Summis marriage to the entire family. Snehlata tries to warn Rishi might not be the ideal boy for her. Saroj smartly doesnt let her talk and tells her not to bother. Rishi sends an elaborate ghaghra for Summi which she wears for Mehendi ceremony. Rishi and family get elaborate gifts for everyone. Preeti rubs off her mehendi too soon. Summi and Rishis romantic talks make Preeti wonder at the irony of circumstances. The stark difference between the two families is seen during the wedding. Rishis side is elbroate and well dressed whereas Suryakamals side is modest. All ceremonies happen and the contract between Suryakamal and Rishi and between their respective families is clearly visible. During Bidaai Preeti cries her heart out while hugging Snehlata with a question is her eyes as to why her mom has done this to her. Vinay gives her the blue bag full of her favorite move cds. Summi is welcomes in her house with huge fanfare whereas Preetis is a modest grahpravesh.

Somewhere in a plush South Bombay night club a young 22 year old over doses on drugs. Somewhere else a drunken 20 year old runs over sleeping street dwellers. Somewhere else a small group of 18 year olds get into a rabid fight after a rock concert - the rich in the city are getting richer by the day - their crimes are getting more random & more uncontrollable - the cops in the city are not able to deal with it - they cannot relate to the rich youth - they cannot understand their problems & they cannot help them in any possible way. Not only can they not understand or relate to them but they are also unable to investigate these crimes thanks to the clout and connections the rich criminals have. And this leads to immense frustration in the police force. Senior Inspector Damodar Deshmukh is one such frustrated, honest cop who is unable to deal with the aggravation of having unsolved cases which remain unsolved because of the various obstructions that the rich are able to put in the path of his investigations. But what is one lone cop to do? Specially when he has no access to the worlds of the rich -- in fact he has no access into their minds either. As he puts it, he can still understand crimes which have a motivation of hunger, greed, need -- crimes committed daily by the poor, the dispossessed, the homeless. But he cannot understand why the rich, priveleged people commit crimes. And he cannot understand how to deal with it. That is until the day five young criminals with <b>...</b>
